Valerie Fennell was born in South Carolina. She received an MA in Clinical Psychology from the Fielding Institute and a PhD from the University of North Carolina Chapel Hill. Dr. Fennell is currently an Associate Professor of Anthropology at Georgia State University. She is a member of several Anthropological Associations, as well as the National Women's Studies Association.
